Excuse Me While I Kiss the Sky

Purple haze all in my brain. Lately things don't seem the same.

I've got Jimi on my brain for September's masthead.

In addition to having difficulty writing simple blog posts, it seems my amateur capacity for moderately decent photography has gone to crap. Sifting through all my photos taken in the past months was futile. Everything was out of focus or cropped just horribly wrong.

Out of desperation, I went outside the other night to take a few shots of the sunset from the west side of our house. Because you can't screw up sunsets, right? Wrong! You can. However,  I managed to get this shot above and I'm proud to say, it is straight out of the camera. Not a single post processing tweak has been made. Seriously though, don't you just want to kiss that sky?

I thought July was pretty bad, but August sure sucked. The other day, I forgot the word for "Alzheimer's."  That's just the kind of thing that would make me laugh my ass off. Except that kind of thing happens a lot lately. So it's getting kind of old. I think this is gonna take a while. Posting will continue to be light.

Fall is my favorite season and starting it off with purple sunsets is a happy thought. So here is a recipe for a "green smoothie" to celebrate the start of a plush Fall season with glorious color!

It has chia seed in it.  I know---it's totally bonkers that I stock chia seed. I don't even own a Chia pet, rescued or otherwise. It would never survive the husky that lives with us.

purple haze

I'm calling it Purple Haze. Yum!

1 heaping handful of baby spinach
Approximately 10 lemon basil leaves {or a handful of the more popular, genovese basil + 1 tsp. lemon zest}
1 to 1 1/2 cups blueberries
1 banana, frozen is best
1 tablespoon chia seeds
3/4 cup almond milk
1 Small handful of ice cubes (I left this out)

Thank you Food with Love for this awesome recipe!

Happy Purple September readers!

  1. Beautiful sunset the other night up here in the mountains, and you captured it!!! I'm going to try this smoothie, I think. I know chia seeds are the new rage, but I can't help but think of the animals. Kind of like flax seed. I remember drawing those maps in sixth grade of different South American countries and adding in little flax bundles as one of the "goods produced." So I've always thought of flax as plants used to make clothes. Then all of the flax seeds as something to eat came along, and I still feel creepy about it.

Anyway, I'm sorry you're having some health challenges. I'll send some healing energy to you!

    1. @ Gina Admas: that's funny! I own a coat made from FLAX! I'm not a flax food fan though for a variety of reasons. Something to do with the right balance of active Omegas for me. And Loki is allergic to it too. But Chia doesn't bother me at all. It's a nice addition to some salads (not all, it does have an odd flavor) and works great in a smoothie!

  2. Hi there - I just discovered that when I switched to Google+, it made my email address disappear from my comments and my profile. I don't know how to fix that. It's kynabear5 at gmail. Looking forward to hearing from you!
