Work Ethic

"Patrolling doesn't stop for the weekend!"  - 208/365

The work ethic is mighty in the cracker. Loki is over eight years old now. He's not a completely balanced dog as he still relies on me heavily for managing his incredible defense drive on walks or in public. He always looks to me first before he reacts to something unusual. It's up to me to pay attention to his alert cue.  He's naturally suspicious. And believe me, when you walk the deep mountain trails that I do, that is exactly what you need in a canine partner. (more…)

African Lily - 205/365

Agapanthus, also known as Lily of the Nile or African Lily, are actually not lilies (of the genus lilium)  and are native to Southern Africa. The species genus is not clear despite having been studied intensely but a variety of 6-10 species have been recognized. They've become naturalized around the world, but can be easily spotted throughout all of Northern California.

Cold + Fog = Zen - 204/365

Monday we woke up to a cold, foggy day in the mountains. I couldn't have been happier. The sun and heat have been hell on my migraines. Cold dark days are always easier on me.  So, even though my body said 'no,' I pushed myself to go the extra few miles on the dog walk to get some cool shots from a vista on Loma Prieta. But it didn't work out so well. It was so blustery, I couldn't keep the dogs still and from brush blowing around through my shots, so I gave up and turned around. All that extra hiking for no decent fog shots sure can bum out a Lymie. It's not like I benefited from the extra workout, like most people would. In fact, doing too much can set me back a lot.  (more…)

Chamomile - 202/365

Not much has changed these days. Each day my headaches range from mildly annoying to terrifying migraines.  My energy levels are low to the point I can only do one or two things. Saturday was one of those days. Mr. Wild Dingo was off this week and took over some of my dog walks. But he asked for one of his favorite dinners, sweet and sticky baby back ribs and 'slaw.  How could I say no?  I mean, he takes home the bacon, the least I can do is fry it up in a pan! (more…)

TGIF - 201/365

It's the last day of the Mr. Wild Dingo's vacation. What better way to spend it than with his favorite girl with the floofy jodhphurs?

Pineapple Pie -200/365

Coreopsis a flowering plant in the Asteraceae (daisy) family. Its common names are calliopsis and tickseed. I've also seen this variety named "Cha Cha Cha" or "Pineapple Pie." The species is not native to California but is often found naturalized in the wild. Its flat fruits are small and dry and look like bugs, which is how its common and genus name were derived. Coreopsis are showy flowers used as food for caterpillars and butterflies.

Sunset on Summit - 196/365

"I have no business trying to be a person," I said to Mr. Wild Dingo as I once again clumsily dropped another item for no reason. These are the weird conversations that Lyme brings up. (more…)
