It's lazy and rainy Sunday today so no walks for the dogs. Besides, Loki and I were up bright and early at a 2-hour search class, so doggie duties are over. It's days like this I work on silly things with them like their fears. Both of them have been fearful of the drain grate in our driveway. A while back Loki got over it in 20 minutes. Juno's been still working on it, so we worked on it today. Most people would shrug their shoulders and decide that getting their dog over a silly fear of a drain grate is a waste of time. But I find working on the smallest fears can do so much for improving your relationship with your dog so when the time comes in an emergency where you must ask your dog to do something unusual, walk over something they are not familiar with or jump into something they never did before, there is a bond of trust established and getting them through something in an emergency becomes that much more easier. It's a huge reason why doing physical therapy with Juno is such a breeze.
"If I just put one paw on it do I get a treat?'
"Ok two paws are on it. And I'm not dead. "
"Odd smells. I'm certain if I put my whole body on this drain I will disappear for ever."
"Princess let me show it's not so bad."
"Retardo, don't be such a show-off. You can't even do the Juno Mind Trick or Siberian Pilates."
"The paws are on. Give me the treat."
"Good job Princepessa! I would like to give you a kiss for this."
"Lay off Retardo. Your kisses rank far below the chicken treats."

We love it - TD so enjoys a romp in the mud. Maybe you can see now why snow is better:) Dakota was always afraid of the storm drains in the streets - she would walk waaaaaaaaaayyyy out of the way to avoid being anywhere near one.

Mom turned her back on me this morning and I dug a hole too! She exclaimed some things about the new sod that she and Dad spent all their money on a few months ago and what was I doing and why can't she have anything nice without an animal ruining it. I think she got up on the wrong side of the bed.

I love rolling in the mud. Momma doesn't have to turn her back though. She drives us to the mud and then we all get muddy together. She's a bit weird, I know.

Hey, thanks for your comment on my latest raw update. I guess I should do another update lol. Jackal has been fine since he vomited the other day. Haven't had any other problems. 🙂 The reason I was raising the amount is because he looks a bit thin to me, but I may just be so used to seeing him look fat. I may need to feed him two meals a day, but I don't want to feed them in the evenings because if they are going to vomit I don't want to be woken up over it LOL. I know that must sound so bad. 🙂 I'll watch him closely for a few more days before I decide.
We want treats too. We can do that...

Good job with the drain. It took 5 years but I just got my older lab to walk over a drain as if it wasn't there. We just kept trying every time we saw one. With my dog, the key to getting her to forget certain fears seems to be that I act as if the object of her fear doesn't even exist - in other words, I need not to make a big deal of it.
Oh my goodness, Juno - I never thought I'd see you looking so muddy and unglamorous!! Hee! Hee! 😀 Must have been realy worth it!
Well done for learning to brave about the drain! My human so agrees with your human about the way she thinks - she also likes to work on any issues I have, even if they are not very important - she totally agrees about it helping to build a bond and also, it's fun to face challenges together and she learns more about me everytime she tries to solve a problem with me. You're so lucky to have such an understanding human!
