La Mer

You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

I needed to hear and read this. Yesterday's tragedy in Boston felt like the cherry on top of the pile of human and animal horrors posted daily on Facebook and other social networks. I'd been feeling blue lately, dragged down by all the negativity swirling around in cyberspace. When I first met Mr. Wild Dingo, I was shocked to learn that though he's always up  to speed on every current event, he never watched the evening news. And now I know why. It drains you of hope, progress, productivity and just generally feeling good. The most successful people I know don't have time for negativity or anger.  They move forward and stay focused on their goals.  The sooner we do that, the better.

  1. Nothing to do but move forward. I promised myself before I went to work that I would not get drawn into any marathon discussions and I managed to keep my mouth shut throughout. Felt good not to wallow in speculation and dark thoughts.

  2. I hear ya! I'm also with Mr. Wild Dingo on the uselessness and soul-sapping nature of the news! I find all the news I need on my news app on my phone, I scan quickly. No repetitive rehashing or speculation of annoying newscasters. I also get dragged down the negativity on social media so I have to filter so that I'm not overwhelmed by requests to help with things that I can't help with. I volunteer my time and money for as much as I can before it starts to affect my family and work. I do as much as I personally can and commit to it.

  3. Forgot to add...

At the end of the day, there's nothing like the adoring gaze and hug of a Siberian to heal your soul. 🙂

  4. Thanks for the reminder about the Ghandi saying; it had slipped mama's mind and it does help. It's still an even bet whether we're going to evolve as a species or self-destruct and take the world with us. Guess all we can do is add whatever little we can towards evolution.
