Diary of a Dog Nut

This blog began in 2005 with a silly press release about my dingo, Maggie, and her nemesis, Monsieur Le Pew.  In 2008, I rescued the cracker, Loki. I never had a high drive working dog so I did what every new dog owner does when they are in over their heads with a busy dog. I adopted a second dog, a husky, to "keep him busy." I know, Internet, I know. I didn't actually make my life easier. I just had more work. Life with the cracker and the criminal was filled with adventures and hard life lessons. Juno wrote masticated the book on crime and punishment, while the cracker policed her misdemeanors.

Sexy Phoos

"I can do this with my eyes closed!" She's an entirely different dog from her first days and months with us where she showed no interest in training, or tricks and least of all, Mr. Wild Dingo. Now, nothing makes her happier than when Mr. Wild Dingo pulls out the training treats. She puts on […]

Disgruntled

This is the face of a Siberian husky when you won't share any fresh cherries with her. "I'll find a way to pay you back. When you least expect it."

Bed Bug

"Uh, Princess, there's another bed right next to this one." "I'm stayin. Get over it." Mind games. She doesn't even like the beds. She prefers hardwood floors. The only thing she likes better than a hardwood floor is screwing with Loki's head.

Nobody's Perfect

That's the usual tongue-in-cheek comment that follows when you tell the Swiss you're not Swiss. A year ago, I couldn't get within 500 feet of a pasture of grazing horses or cows without an explosion of histrionics from Loki. Yesterday, I called them back to me when I saw a horseback rider approach during one of our off-leash […]

Can You Hear Me Now?

Whether she's pirating his favorite bed just to screw with his head, forcing him into bitey-face action or swishing her tail  flirtatiously in his face, never a day goes by where Juno doesn't push his buttons. She'll have plenty of time to push those buttons while I'm in London the rest of the week.  I almost feel sorry […]

Duck Hunting Fail

It was a lovely Friday afternoon at Lake Leman. I let the dogs off leash in an area where they wouldn't bother anyone. Juno went down shore a bit to sniff out the beach while I watched Loki focus on a duck close to shore.  Loki doesn't like water so I knew the duck was safe from him. […]

If You Want to See The Rainbow, You Gotta Put Up with the Rain

Who knew a quote from Dolly Parton could symbolize my life with Loki so succinctly? Loki is what they call an "edgy" dog, suspicious of many things.  And if his anxiety isn't channeled, you end up with crackery.  Living here, in such a diverse environment and exposing him to so much has helped him, and our partnership, more […]
