Diary of a Dog Nut

This blog began in 2005 with a silly press release about my dingo, Maggie, and her nemesis, Monsieur Le Pew.  In 2008, I rescued the cracker, Loki. I never had a high drive working dog so I did what every new dog owner does when they are in over their heads with a busy dog. I adopted a second dog, a husky, to "keep him busy." I know, Internet, I know. I didn't actually make my life easier. I just had more work. Life with the cracker and the criminal was filled with adventures and hard life lessons. Juno wrote masticated the book on crime and punishment, while the cracker policed her misdemeanors.

Sometimes it Pays to be Shameless

On last week's post,  it was a bit strange to read comments asking ,"Wow is that photo with your dog and Cadel real or Photoshopped?" O.K. peeps, I know I Photoshop a bit. And I use all sorts of filters on the camera and in software programs to enhance the photos. But seriously: I'm not that talented. I […]

Cadel Evans Wins More than Bike Races

Oh my God! Why is the Winner of the 2011 Tour de France and 2011 Tour of Romandie, Cadel Evans pointing at me as he’s rolling up to the start of the 2012 Tour of Romandie?

"Um, Princess, you're sitting on my foot." Four years ago, he was the house bully. Yet, it took only two nights, with only positive efforts, to teach him not to bully her for her dinner. It was such a powerful lesson, that each night after that, he would finish his dinner and seek me out searching for his praise for doing the […]

Probation

Dog lovers generally like or love Loki when they first meet him. They're fooled by his charm.  Even Bernard, our kennel keeper, had a mile-wide smile the first day he met him. "He's well-trained," he said. But that was before he chose to live with the whacka-cracker while we vacation. The last time we picked up the dogs after […]

Déjà Shu

Last week, I posted a photo of yet another book mastication on Facebook. Hours later, I went downstairs and found one of Mr. Wild Dingo's brand new leather flip flops, torn apart. So he threw it away when he got home. We went out to dinner that night and came home to find that his […]

"It is better to do nothing, than to be busy doing nothing." I've had this knot in my stomach all week knowing I'd have to leave the cracker and the criminal at Bernard's doggie spa and camp this week. Bernard was fairly exhausted by Loki's crackery on the last stay. There are so many great […]

Creative Suffering

I looked like the total American trying to walk into a Coop Supermarket on Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m. Nothing was open. I should have known better. It was Holy Thursday. Switzerland basically shuts almost down everything from Thursday night to Tuesday morning. So if you're out of milk, you almost have to suffer for 4 […]
