Ex-pat Years in Switzerland

Luck. Fortune. Fate. Call it what you want, but when the opportunity to spend a few years in Switzerland landed in our laps, we didn't say "no." I mean, we may be crazy here at Wild Dingo, but we're not exactly, crazy. It was everything you'd imagine and more. From transatlantically transporting two high-drive dogs to our foreign grocery store adventures, there wasn't a single moment of regret.

Get A Room!

"Princess, avert your eyes!" I don't know what it is, but there's a high degree of PDA in Switzerland. Not just among teenagers. I didn't notice the couple making out in back of the dogs until I processed the images on the computer. This was the least explicit photo of their activities. We may be […]

Nobody's Perfect

That's the usual tongue-in-cheek comment that follows when you tell the Swiss you're not Swiss. A year ago, I couldn't get within 500 feet of a pasture of grazing horses or cows without an explosion of histrionics from Loki. Yesterday, I called them back to me when I saw a horseback rider approach during one of our off-leash […]

Chateau Gruyères

In May Mr. Wild Dingo, a friend and I all visited Chateau Gruyères (entry to the chateau above photo) in the canton Fribourg. I expected a very long drive so I took my iphone for entertainment. About 30 minutes into the drive, I looked up and saw the beautiful rolling green hills and blue skies. "Damn! I feel […]

Duck Hunting Fail

It was a lovely Friday afternoon at Lake Leman. I let the dogs off leash in an area where they wouldn't bother anyone. Juno went down shore a bit to sniff out the beach while I watched Loki focus on a duck close to shore.  Loki doesn't like water so I knew the duck was safe from him. […]

I love this country. If I could, or had to, I would live here forever. But every now and then, its blemishes show up.

This Place Rocks

This month's masthead came from an outing we did just yesterday in Lausanne, at a Parc Vidy. We met up with another Anglophone who had been advertising dog walks in this area for a while now. This place rocks. Lausanne loves dogs and provides plenty of areas for them to be on or off leash in fenced […]

Life in the Fast Lane

Some of you keep asking me if it really is this pretty here in the land of yodeling dairy lovers. Yawn. I mean, yes, it is that pretty and pristine. Just how many photos do I have to post before you believe me?  It's Swiss. Everything is measured and cut to the centimeter.  Especially in parks […]

Ces Loups Sont Gentils

"Oh la la! Les loups," claims a woman. She was talking about us. Because it seems perfectly normal for two human beings to walk into a quiet lakeside town in Switzerland on a Sunday morning for a picnic brunch with wolves on the end of their leashes. If you aren't sporting a lap dog, a labrador or golden retriever, then […]

It's So Swiss

As I was looking over the charges on the flight to London I booked yesterday, I noticed that Switzerland charged a "noise tax" but the U.K. didn't. That's so Swiss. I took this shot above one evening in our backyard while the dogs were rompin' in the twilight. I think they should just call it an […]
